Robert Plant Covers Elbow For British Red Cross
“I’m a big fan of Elbow,” declares the Led Zeppelin man as he tackles Guy Garvey and co.’s Blanket Of Night for a charity album featuring Tinariwen and more.
HE SANG ABOUT Other Arms on his first solo album, now Robert Plant is exercising his (love of) Elbow, covering the Bury band’s song The Blanket Of Night for a new compilation. The former Led Zeppelin man has created a version of the The Take Off And Landing Of Everything track for British Red Cross’ forthcoming charity record The Long Road.

With the song’s subject matter dealing with the experiences of refugees, Plant explained he felt it was an apt selection for the project.
“I’m a big fan of Elbow and it was an obvious choice when we were deciding which track to perform on the record,” he said.
“The Blanket Of Night is devastatingly to the point. With the minimal amount of words, Guy manages to encapsulate the hope and the fear that must be in the minds of refugees who attempt a journey across the water.”
He added he got involved in the project becayse he was keen to make a contribution of some kind towards the current refugee crisis.
“We have a worldwide international catastrophe – talking about it is one thing, doing something about it is another,” Plant explained. “The position we are in, it’s paramount we all do our best one way or another to help.”
The new recording will feature alongside tracks from Scroobius Pip, Kindness, the Sierra Leone Refugee All Stars and Tinariwen, with the latter recording a new song, Silence (segments of which you can hear in the video below), for the Ethan Johns-produced project slated for release on March 4, 2016.
