PRIMAL SCREAM’S EVER-VIGILANT Bobby Gillespie hipped us to this supercool French duo at the end of 2010, and last year they shook a Gallic jambe through I Know There’s An Answer on MOJO’s Pet Sounds Revisited covermount CD. Unhinged by John Barry and Ennio Morricone, Serge Gainsbourg and The Seeds, Lio and Marie Limiñana hail from southern France and there’s something suitably, louchely glamorous about their retro-futurist mix’n’match. And any band with a song called Je Ne Suis Pas Très Drogue (trans: “I Am Not Very Drug”) has to have something going on.

New track My Black Sabbath leads off with a clattering mod club breakbeat and gets better from there, with Marie’s familiar I’m-bored-of-being-this-cool vocal surfing Lio’s febrile groove. A twangsome Eastern-psych guitar attack (if it doesn’t have a Vox Phantom on it somewhere, it should have) completes a toothsome amuse bouche, setting the tastebuds tingling for forthcoming third album, Costa Blanca, released November 18.
