MOJO’s deluxe spin-off is back, celebrating rock’s decade of cool with classic stories and pull-out posters. New issue out tomorrow, Thursday, August 4.
MOJO ’60s, THE deluxe magazine dedicated to rock’s iconic foundational decade, is back for its sixth volume.
On sale in the UK from Thursday, August 4, the latest issue of MOJO's sumptuous quarterly offshoot puts the pivotal first 12 months of Jimi Hendrix’s solo career under the microscope, diarising his rise from unknown wannabe star in New York in summer 1966 to his stellar breakthrough success with the Jimi Hendrix Experience in Britain in 1967.
There are also detailed features on cult French music icon Serge Gainsbourg, Frank Zappa’s breakthrough with The Mothers Of Invention’s sui generis Freak Out! album, The Lovin’ Spoonful’s bittersweet rise and fall, and Son House’s immeasurable influence on the ’60s folk-blues revival.
Other treats include a delve into The Shadows’ dark side, country queen Bobbie Gentry’s strange vanishing act, plus new interviews with guitarist Eddie Phillips of pop art pioneers The Creation, Love’s Johnny Echols, Yardbirds/Bolan manager-guru Simon Napier-Bell and country soul pioneer William Bell.
