Early ‘Vision’ Of New Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry Film
Ahead of its UK premiere this Saturday (July 4), MOJO has the trailer of Vision Of Paradise, a new documentary about the producer.
HAVING SPENT THE last 15 years, off and on, filming its subject, new Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry film Vision Of Paradise is fairly exhaustive – as you can see from the trailer we're streaming exclusively below.
German filmmaker Volker Schaner originally began chronicling his subject in 1999 for a dramatic work. However, after various production delays he gathered a wealth of material that has ended up in this documentary.
“There is something so mysterious and sparkling in Lee Perry’s music,” Schaner told us in MOJO 260 – which is now available on newsstands in North American or can be ordered online – “I always wanted to understand this man and his cosmos, and to make a film with and about him.”
In addition to footage of the producer and some of the greatest dub and reggae musicians, the film also recounts scenes from Perry’s life through a series of animations.
Watch the trailer now, exclusively via MOJO.
Lee Scratch Perry’s Vision Of Paradise is set to receive its UK premiere at the East End Film Festival on Saturday (July 4) and following the screening at The Genesis Cinema both Schaner and Perry will take part in a Q&A. Visit www.genesiscinema.co.uk for details.
