10 Best Reissues Of 2014 (Q3)
The greatest reissues, remasters and compilations, July-September. Picked to enrich your world by MOJO’s staff and writers.
THE JOY OF the reissues universe is that even the most familiar records can surrender new secrets when remastered, repackaged and re-compiled anew. Or maybe you weren’t familiar with them them in the first place, in which case they become a whole new alien and exciting country to explore. This summer we’ve been spoiled with an embarrassment of groovy back catalogue riches, chief among which must be The Beatles’ entire trove of mono recordings – how most of their releases were heard in the 1960s – recreated in super-faithful facsimile vinyl editions. But this is only the tip of a towering reissues mountain.
Following on from our recommendations for the first and second quarters of 2014, we’ve selected 10 of the very best reissues from the last three months, spanning the aforementioned Beatles mono bonanza to an anthology of New Zealand’s indie sultans The Clean, and from Dolly Parton and Porter Wagoner’s emotional country duets to DJ Terry Farley’s compilation of his fave acid and deep house tunes.
Our choices are not ranked in any order other than alphabetical, but please get in touch via Facebook or Twitter (@MOJOmagazine) to let us know of any releases you think were robbed off a Top 10 placing, or else just generally let us know what’s rocked your reissues world this summer.
