The Who Play I’m Free: Exclusive Tommy Digital Box Set Preview
Immersive Tommy iPad app features pinball game and vintage live footage. Sample the latter now.
THE WHO’S TOMMY gets a 21st Century makeover as a DBS – or Digital Box Set – joins Deluxe and Super Deluxe audio editions of the landmark rock opera in time for Christmas. In layman’s terms, it’s an iPad app where the still-extraordinary 1969 album interacts with immersive bonus material including book-length sleevenotes by legendary Who/Mod chronicler Richard Barnes, a digital pinball game (pictured) and five filmed performances from the December 14, 1969 show at the London Coliseum, where the group played the Tommy album in full (elsewhere to be found on the 2007 DVD, The Who At Kilburn 1977 + Live At The Coliseum).
MOJO is pleased to stream an exclusive clip of the latter, with the group ripping into I’m Free and giving a very good impression of history’s most explosive rock’n’roll band.
Out now, the app is free from the iTunes app store, but – as MOJO understands it – you purchase the music element (if you don’t have it in your iTunes already) from inside the app for £7.49.
