Goldfrapp – Drew
Alison Goldfrapp previews new album with stunning short film.
Goldfrapp’s broadly eponym-themed new album, Tales Of Us (see review in MOJO 238), is accompanied by a series of stylish black and white films by Lisa Gunning in which Alison Goldfrapp has appeared as both an axe-murder and a murder victim (Jo) and now for the song Drew in a sort of sexually charged art-pop Brideshead Revisited, pensively remembering naked romps and spring woodland in a now empty stately home. The song’s soaring, John Barry/Morricone-esque strings suit the mood of wistful decadence perfectly. It’s all rather gorgeous and only tangentially engages with the song’s eponymous character. Is Drew the naked man teaching Alison Goldfrapp to fly a remote control plane? Who knows? It’s all so beautiful; by the end Alison clearly feel compelled to get naked too… And cut!
