Tom Sheehan’s Rock Portraits

IF THERE’S A TRICK to staying power in the music media game, Tom Sheehan knows it. A 40-year career shooting for CBS, Melody Maker, MOJO and more attests to the Camberwell-born snapper’s creative durability, handsome but unpretentious style and – more than anything, perhaps – his knack for drawing something approachable from his subjects in the wink of a shutter. The rock stars we see through Sheehan’s lens look like people you want to hang with. Some stellar examples of his best work can currently be seen at the Lomography Gallery Store East in London’s happening East End, where hand-printed portraits of Tom Waits, Morrissey, Mick Jagger, John Lydon, Arthur Lee, Bruce Springsteen, Thom Yorke, Coldplay and more need to be seen in the flesh (as it were) to be properly appreciated.
