Happy Birthday, Terry Reid!
Celebrate the man who could have been Percy with a quick draw on a smoking version of Superlungs My Supergirl.
HE WAS FAMOUSLY asked to join the New Yardbirds by Jimmy Page but declined the offer and suggested an unknown singer named Robert Plant as a suitable candidate. Then he received an offer to replace Rod Evans in Deep Purple but, again, elected to continue with his own solo career. For all the what-could-have-beens, Terry Reid remains one of the finest blue-eyed soul singers of his generation. Despite being mis-managed by Mickie Most, albums such as 1973’s River and Seed Of Memory – produced by Graham Nash three years later – may not have sold in the quantities they should have, but they remain stone cold classics.
Today, November 13, marks Reed’s 64th birthday and in celebration of that fact we bring you his thumping, soul-stirring cover of Donovan’s Superlungs My Supergirl.
Terry continues to play and astound audiences. For more information on his latest activity go here.
