Manic Street Preachers – Rewind The Film
Reflective/epic, rush-release duet with Richard Hawley previews September 16 album.
MANIC STREET PREACHERS have surprised fans by releasing a new song online after dropping hints on Twitter, in amongst a twitfest of British Lions vs Wallabies-orientated banter. The song, Rewind The Film, features a vocal cameo from crooning Sheffield greaser Richard Hawley and sparkling 12-string guitar work, plus a typically bombastic intervention from the MSPs' own singer-guitarist, James Dean Bradfield. The track previews a September 16 album with the same title, recorded at the group's Faster studio in Cardiff, Rockfield in Monmouthshire and Hansa in Berlin. Promised subject matter includes Thatcherism, Manorbier Castle, Skids/Big Country's late singer/guitarist Stuart Adamson, Les Blank's Burden Of Dreams documentary about Werner Herzog's Fitzcarraldo odyssey/ordeal and Welsh poet RS Thomas.
The group have been touring Australia, conveniently allowing the rugby-mad trio to attend the games. Lions and Wales centre Jamie Roberts, who scored the final clinching try in Friday/Saturday's match even joined the group onstage in Melbourne on June 28 and played guitar.
Rewind The Film is purchasable via iTunes.
