The Beatles – It’s All Too Much

IN NOVEMBER 2012, on the eve of the release of The Beatles vinyl box, MOJO hosted an event at Abbey Road’s Studio 2 under the banner of The Beatles Uncovered. The event saw a panel of Beatle nuts debate which tunes in the band’s catalogue were the most truly under-appreciated. Each member of the panel selected a track, with MOJO vigorously stating the case for George Harrison’s heavy psych nugget, It’s All Too Much.

Cosmic organ, fuzzy riffs, monster handclaps, tripped-out vocals, and a fine performance from Ringo Starr make for a compelling, driving tune that nestles between Hey Bulldog and All You Need Is Love on the Yellow Submarine original soundtrack which was released in early ’69.

The track itself dates back to ’67 and was originally earmarked for inclusion on The Magical Mystery Tour but somehow failed to make the cut. Equally puzzling is the fact that a full eight-minute version has yet to see the light of day in terms of an official release.
