David Frost Meets The Beatles
The late, great broadcaster and writer hosted some of their most memorable TV appearances. Watch them here.
Sir David Frost, who sadly passed away on Saturday at the age of 74, was a giant of broadcasting for more than 50 years. Among his most celebrated interviews with titans of the political and entertainment worlds were several encounters with John Lennon and Paul McCartney, most notably on the set of the promo for Hey Jude, shot at Twickenham Studios on September 4, 1968.
This wasn't the first time he had met The Beatles. In 1964, Frost, then a new rising star of British television, interviewed Paul McCartney during the filming of A Hard Day's Night (see below). It was a meeting that would mark the start of an association with John, Paul, George and Ringo that would continue throughout the years. Here are some of those great moments captured on film.
Let's begin with an appearance from “the greatest tea-room orchestra in the world” (broadcast September 8, 1968):
John and Yoko's first TV interview (Frost On Saturday, August 24, 1968)
“Vibrations”, Art, John and Yoko's recent exhibitions and why "this is a happening".
John and Yoko return (The David Frost Show, June 14, 1969)
Frost on listening to Unfinished Music No. 2: Life with the Lions: “As they used to say, I can get all that in my backyard”.
John and Yoko return: Part 2 (The David Frost Show, June 14, 1969)
“Peace! Peace! Peace!”
John, Yoko, Abbie Hoffman and David Peel (The David Frost Show, January 13, 1972)
Invasion of the hippie radicals. John: “Even singing is better than doing nothing”.
Interviewing Paul McCartney (A Degree Of Frost, April 15, 1964)
Frost: “It'll be a pleasure to watch Paul McCartney in retirement, but it'll probably be in the year 2010”...
And again, 48 years later at the end of 2012...
Frost: “He wasn't that far out, was he?”
