Atoms For Peace Hit Their Live Straps
Default shines, Thom Yorke boogies at Los Angeles show - new hi-fi footage.
ATOMS FOR PEACE – the electronica-rock supergroup comprising Radiohead's Thom Yorke, producer Nigel Godrich, bassist Flea, drummer-by-appointment Joey Waronker and Brazilian percussionist Mauro Refosco – have released their own professionally recorded footage of the group's June 14 show at LA's Fais Do-Do venue. The version of Default – the standout track from the group's Amok album – sets the benchmark, with a full-blooded performance, especially by the heavy-grooving Flea, lifting the material to another level: a transformation worthy of the song's "a pawn into a queen" lyric. Yorke's past allusions to the Afrobeat component in the Atoms For Peace DNA seems suddenly rather less fanciful.
The group arrive in Europe for live dates at the weekend before UK shows on July 24, 25 and 26 at London's Roundhouse.
