Bob Dylan: Al Kooper Stars In New ‘Bootleg’ Clip
Latest Another Self Portrait promo leaks more music, as insiders recall the “joyous trip” that was Self Portrait and New Morning.
"It was different to the other sessions I'd done... I thought the album would be called Folk Songs Of America or something". So recalls Bob Dylan confidante and studio regular Al Kooper as he looks back on the making of Self Portrait in this new 11-minute film previewing Another Self Portrait (1969 - 1971): The Bootleg Series Vol. 10 (due for release next week). Kooper is joined by producer Bob Johnston and guitarist David Bromberg as they revisit this prolific yet transitional period in Dylan's career. Up for discussion: Why 1969-71 was a great time for Dylan's voice, what Kooper found when he isolated the original tracks, why he's always coveted New Morning and Sign On The Window, confounding the critics with Self Portrait and why recording both these albums turned into a “complete and utter joyous trip”.
