Factory Floor – Turn It Up

For the last eight years London electronic three-piece Factory Floor have increasingly piqued MOJO’s interest as they developed their beat-heavy, synth-noir sound across an increasing number of inspired 12-inch singles and mini albums. Such is the seriousness of trio’s reputation that they have already found fans among heavyweight electronic luminaries including New Order’s Stephen Morris and Throbbing Gristle’s Chris Carter, both of whom have remixed Factory Floor.

At long last, the group have completed work on their highly anticipated self-titled debut album (due out September 9, on DFA). Produced and recorded by the band themselves in a North London warehouse, they boast it was recorded on the mixing desk used to record all of the Eurythmics’ early hits.

The first taste from the album is this tune, minimalist anthem Turn It Up: a track which sounds like Arthur Russell sprinkling disco dust onto a Throbbing Gristle session. The result is moving, grooving, bleak and utterly mesmerizing.
