TV ON THE RADIO'S first release since their deal with Interscope soured earlier this year is Mercy, a song they debuted on-stage at All Tomorrow’s Parties at Camber Sands back in May. The studio version of the song, first posted yesterday via soundcloud (the band’s favourite digital medium) lays bare the group’s typically eclectic arrangements by posting the individual studio stems for those fans who just have to look behind the curtain. Hear then, Tunde Adebimpe’s uncharacteristically modest lead vocal on one, Kyp Malone’s rather lovely unadorned falsetto outro on another, the eerily Duran Duran-like end vocal, and heck, even the propulsive, My Sharona-esque new wave drum and bass tracks. Then marvel, as these elements mesh into a song fizzing with such direct feet-don’t-fail-me-now rhythmic abandon you’d think it was a simple three chord thrash.

Mercy, TV On The Radio’s first release via David Sitek’s own label Federal Prism, is available now.
