IGGY POP HAS headed up some extremely decent rock’n’roll line-ups in his time, but his new group has a pedigree to rival any. The cover of MOJO 269 on sale in the UK from Tuesday February 23, 2016.

Returning with a new album, Post Pop Depression, on March 18, Iggy was joined in the studio by an outfit featuring Queens Of The Stone Age’s Josh Homme and Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders – and the whole band have spoken exclusively in the new issue of MOJO about the project while Homme has also helped to compile this month’s free CD.

The cover feature of our latest edition (April 2016 / #269), which is on sale in the UK from Tuesday (February 23), incorporates input from all the band (also starring Queens Of The Stone Age/Dead Weather multi-instrumentalist Dean Fertita) while Iggy talks extensively about his entire, pioneering career.

“Somebody the other day said to me, ‘You don’t need to do this – you already made it!’ Oh? Nobody told me!” Iggy tells MOJO’s Keith Cameron of his decision to recruit a new group and go hell-for-leather on the album.

“I just had a feeling. I guess it was partly to do with properly fulfilling what I reckoned my potential was,” he adds. “So that I didn’t sit down in the mud when I’m 79 and say, ‘Hey, you didn’t give it a proper shot.’ I have absolutely zero expectations – a couple of people have heard it and they like it, and I like it, so that’s a good start. I tried my best, let’s see what happens.”

As for his chief collaborator, Homme couldn’t be prouder of his work with Iggy, declaring the project life-changing.

“I tried my best, let’s see what happens.”
