The Zombies – Still Got That Hunger

Odessey And Oracle’s classic album status is undeniable and since The Zombies reformed in 2004, it’s been the touchstone for their new material. Zombies of the 21st Century.

Their sixth album, with a sleeve design by Terry Quirk, the artist behind Odessey’s cover, is no exception – tracks And We Were Young Again, Chasing The Past and Maybe Tomorrow are rooted in their ’60s Brit-psych sound.

A reworking of 1965 single I Want You Back Again is placed in a similar setting, framed by beautiful harmonies and improvised organ soloing. But there are deviations: Moving On sees the group reaching out on a blues rocker; Edge Of The Rainbow rewrites Funny How Time Slips Away as modern jazz.

Yet whatever the style, Rod Argent and Colin Blunstone’s music is executed with wholehearted passion and technical precision.
