Listen Up! ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons Has Got Love If You Want It
MOJO has this exclusive cover from the guitarist's “open minded” first solo album, Perfectamundo.
GREAT FACT: ZZ TOP's Billy Gibbons was once instructed in Latin percussion by none other than Tito Puente, a friend of Gibbons' bandleader dad.
Gibbons releases his first solo record, Perfectamundo, on November 6, and his educational background is returning to the fore, as MOJO can reveal in an exclusive taster from the album, Got Love If You Want It, which you can hear below.
Reviewed in our new issue (November 2015 / #264), on sale now, this cover of Slim Harpo's blues classic is indicative of the album’s “open-mindedness”, where salsa rhythms and Cuban piano frolic alongside “shed-loads of Billy's earthy, incisive lead guitar work”, according MOJO's reviewer James McNair.
