Listen To A ‘Wild’ Unreleased Isley Brothers Track
MOJO has an exclusive preview of a 1980 rarity from the Isleys' forthcoming 22-disc box set.
WITH 23 DISCS and six decades to span there was bound to be a gem or twelve amidst the forthcoming Isley Brothers box set – and MOJO has an exclusive preview of one such nugget.
The RCA Victor And T-Neck Album Masters 1959-1983 collection, released on August 21, features 22 of Cincinnati group’s records, and among its rarities is the unreleased, full version of 1980 album Wild In Woodstock, from which we have Livin' In The Life/Go For Your Guns for you to listen to.
The album, which was actually recorded in a studio with crowd noises set to be added after the sessions but was rejected by the CBS label at the time, features The Isley Brothers experimenting with a slick, harder funk sound.
The full release is reviewed in the latest issue of MOJO (September 2015 / #262) and while our writer Geoff Brown suggest that yet more material could have been included (!), he argues that many of the albums contained within this “small brick of a box set” are “essential to any soul-funk library”.
