HE’S BEEN BUSY celebrating 50 years with The Who and orchestrating rock opera Quadrophenia, but Pete Townshend is turning his attention back to his oft-neglected solo work. The guitarist is set to release a new solo best-of, Truancy on June 29, and while the 17-track collection features a career-spanning look at his non-Who work, it features two new songs as well.

“I am a bit of a dabbler, I'm afraid.”

MOJO has an exclusive stream of one of them, How Can I Help You, which you can listen to below.

Infused with a golden, ’70s sunshine feel, the song shimmers with acoustic harmonies and finds Townshend experimenting with drum loops, though he also plays “John Entwistle’s hybrid Thunderbird-Fender Precision bass” on the track.

Another brand new song, entitled Guantanamo, will also feature on the compilation.

“I hope it offers a selection that works to introduce new fans to my solo work,” says Townshend of Truancy’s spectrum. “I am a bit of a dabbler, I'm afraid. I am as interested in building, developing and playing with recording studios as I am with making music.”

Listen to How Can I Help You, and come back to MOJO at noon on Thursday (June 25) for some extra special Townshend/Who-related news.
