“HAVING HIM on our album, you can see how his career has taken a downturn,” jokes The Staves’ Camilla Staveley-Taylor of her band’s recent collaboration with Bon Iver's Justin Vernon. In fact with the likes of Kanye West knocking at his door for vocals, plus a series of production gigs, the Bon Iver leader has been pretty busy (even if his band are on indefinite hiatus), but when he encountered the Watford trio he decided this was one project he had to make time for. Vernon tells MOJO all about the project in our new issue of the magazine (June 2015/ #259), which is out now in the UK.

“Harmony singer-songwriters are a dime a dozen. But it was special.”

“It was just the voices,” says Vernon of what first drew him to work with the Staveley-Taylor sisters, who are now firm friends. “Y’know, harmony singer-songwriters are a dime a dozen. But it was special. I was like, Fuck, this is great!”

Having produced the trio’s second album If I Was, Vernon joined the band onstage at London’s Wilton’s Music Hall earlier this spring, and in the new MOJO you can read Tom Doyle's report from the show, which touches on the future of Bon Iver, plans for a possible Christmas covers record and Vernon’s experiences working with Kanye.

In the meantime, you can watch some exclusive live footage and interviews from the night in London below now.
