Nick Cave To Publish Book Written On Sick Bags
The chief Bad Seed’s in-flight musings have inspired a new tome, The Sick Bag Song, published on April 8.
WHILE MOST PEOPLE’S doodles go nowhere, Nick Cave’s have been turned into a new book. Started as scrawls on the back of airline sick bags during his band’s 2014 US tour, The Sick Bag Song will be available on April 8, accompanied by a series of streamed film collaborations with the directors of 20,000 Days On Earth, last year’s reality-blurring documentary about the singer and his music.
Publishers Canongate have billed the publication as “a restless full-length contemporary epic”, bringing together poetry, lyrics, musings, journal entries and more, all presented on colour reproductions of the original sick bags.
The book – available only via www.thesickbagsong.com – comes in two editions: one priced at £770, which is limited to 220 copies, signed by Cave, and accompanied by a white vinyl record of the artist reading the audiobook, and a more modestly priced “unlimited” edition for £30, featuring the book and a download of the audio.
The singer has also teamed up with directors Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard to make five films that will stream via the website ahead of publication, plus three live events – including a Q&A with the audience – are taking place in Los Angeles (The Egyptian Theatre, April 8), New York (The Florence Gould Theatre, April 10 ) and London (Porchester Hall, April 16).
