Bob Marley And The Wailers – Easy Skanking In Boston '78
David Katz surveys Marley's further conquest of America with this newly collated live album.
One of many packages issued to mark what would have been Bob Marley's 70th, this enjoyable CD/DVD package is culled from two performances given at Boston's Music Hall on June 8, 1978.
“Marley put his all into his performances, no matter what the setting.”
Backed by the Barrett Brothers, Tyrone Downey, Junior Marvin, the I-Three and Seeco, Marley is relaxed during the first set, but never less than fully in control: The Heathen and Easy Skanking both display a quiet majesty. Marley and Co are fully on fire for the second set, with War/No More Trouble and Exodus being full-throttle workouts, blasting out the Bard's powerful messages of righteousness.
The package’s DVD element was shot by an amateur, who only captured six songs, but it nevertheless helps flesh out the picture of a Marley who’d amassed a hugely loyal fanbase Stateside.
The release ultimately reminds that he put his all into his performances, no matter what the setting.
