George Harrison Solo Albums Reissued
The Beatle’s first six solo LPs get the deluxe treatment.
UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP and the Harrison family have announced that George Harrison’s first six LPs albums have been digitally remastered for release on September 22 as CD digipaks and digital downloads. The albums will also be available together as an eight-disc box set, titled The Apple Years 1968-75, including a DVD with unreleased footage. The albums – Wonderwall Music (1968), Electronic Sound (1969), All Things Must Pass (1971), Living In The Material World (1973), Dark Horse (1974) and Extra Texture (Read All About It) (1975) – have been remastered from the original analogue tapes and, except for the experimental Electronic Sound, add rare and unreleased tracks.
Among the most interesting extras are those on Wonderwall Music, the soundtrack to Joe Massot’s feature film Wonderwall and the first solo album released by any Beatle, which is augmented with a previously unreleased alternate take of The Inner Light (the more familiar version appearing on the B-side of The Beatles’ Lady Madonna single), plus a raga titled Almost Shankara, which wasn’t used in the film or on the original LP.
“Some of these records have long been out of print, and so I cannot wait for music lovers to get their hands on these newly remastered versions,” says George’s son, Dhani Harrison, who has overseen the project.
