POST-PUNK POLYMATH Green Gartside is the latest pioneering artist to be afforded the live MOJO Interview treatment at the Green Man Festival, which resumes this weekend at Glanusk Park in Wales's Brecon Beacons. 3.30pm this Saturday, August 16, is the time and date, the Talking Shop stage is the venue, and the discourse with MOJO writer Pete Paphides will be dazzling.

Gartside came to the fore as the erudite frontman and main songwriter with Scritti Politti, one of the iconoclastic groups who took punk’s no-holds-barred aesthetic and used it to break apart rock's generic strictures. Reggae, funk and much besides were stirred into their thrilling mix.

Less angular and more enamoured with black music as the ’80s progressed, Scritti became a chart-busting techno-funk phenomenon and the now mononymous ‘Green’ became an anomalous presence in Smash Hits magazine with his umpteen 'O'-levels and Lady Di coiffage.

Subsequent albums saw him collaborate with jazz hero Miles Davis and return to his spiritual home, Rough Trade Records, for 2006’s White Bread, Black Beer and a well-timed 2011 best-of, Absolute, that underlined the group’s resurgent reputation.

Gartside has recently been guesting with the group touring Atomic Bomb: The Music Of William Onyeabor. He continues to be a 24 carat inspiration.
