On Thursday August 14, MOJO will be packing its tent, giant gazebo, sunscreen and wellies for a long weekend of eco-friendly fun at the singularly beautiful and friendly Green Man festival in Wales. Now in its 14th year, the family-run gathering at the picturesque Glanusk Estate in the Brecon Beacons will see headlining slots by Beirut, Mercury Rev and Neutral Milk Hotel, but hundreds of other performers – spanning the worlds of music, poetry, literature, comedy, art and science – will also be captivating us in our no doubt micro-brewed cider-enhanced state (see below for a small sample of must-sees). What’s great about Green Man is not only the fact that the 24-hour entertainment is utterly fantastic, and the fact you’ll be waking up each morning to the awe-inspiring vista of the stunning Black Mountains, but also the availability of scrummy locally-sourced food; all-night bonfires to warm yourself on and ferment new friendships in the wee hours; piping hot showers; toilets that are kept whiff-free; and a plethora of stuff for kids to do.

Here are six performances we definitely won’t be missing this year:
