AN APPLE-AUTHORISED Beatles documentary charting the band’s touring years is now in production and will be directed by Academy Award–winner Ron Howard (Frost/Nixon, A Beautiful Mind). The project has the backing of Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono Lennon and Olivia Harrison and will focus on the Fabs’ ride from that dimly lit stage at the Cavern Club in Liverpool to the bright lights of their last full gig at San Francisco’s Candlestick Park in August, 1966.

Ron Howard: “I am excited and honoured to be working with Apple and the White Horse team on this astounding story of these four young men who stormed the world in 1964. Their impact on popular culture and the human experience cannot be exaggerated.”

Nigel Sinclair, the producer behind George Harrison: Living In A Material World, Bob Dylan: No Direction Home and Amazing Journey: The Story Of The Who, will be joined by Scott Pascucci and Brian Grazer on the production team.

Howard’s recent documentary projects include last year's Jay-Z Philadelphia festival film, Made In America.

There’s currently no word on a release date.
