John Fullbright – Happy

BUILDING ON THE SUCCESS of his Grammy-nominated 2012 debut From The Ground Up, purveyor of bucolic Americana John Fullbright will release his follow-up, Songs, on May 27 (July 21 in the UK). Fullbright found his calling after hearing the music of a true country maverick: "When I discovered Townes Van Zandt, that’s when I went, ‘You know, this is something to be taken pretty damn seriously,’” says Fullbright. “‘This is nothing to do with business, it has to do with art and identity.’ You can write something that’s going to outlast you, and immortality through song is a big draw.”

You can enjoy the first taste of Songs below in the form of sunny new track, Happy.

“When writers find themselves being unhappy, they often try and stay there as long as they can so they can pull an experience and a song out of it,” says Fullbright. “That’s not a very healthy way to lead your life. Why does there have to be turmoil in order for there to be art? That’s where Happy comes from.”
