WRITTEN BY THE TEENAGE Jackson Browne in the mid ’60s, These Days is a song of exquisite regret that's been covered by singers including Glen Campbell, St Vincent, Tom Rush, Lloyd Cole and, in a recording featuring Browne himself on guitar, Nico (this is the version that appeared to dramatic effect on Wes Anderson's The Royal Tenenbaums in 2001). Now, for double-disc set Looking Into You: A Tribute To Jackson Browne, Don Henley and Blind Pilot have taken it on, articulating the inner bashedness of a heartsick, floundering, unfulfilled fool in muted, sweetly sad style.
Elsewhere on Looking Into You there are interpretations of the eminent songsmith and musician's works by friends and admirers including Bonnie Raitt, Lyle Lovett, Lucinda Williams, JD Souther and Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa, who duet Browne's The Pretender album track Linda Paloma. It's out on April 28 on Texas-based Music Road Records.
